Bodegas Cornelio Dinastía is one of the most awarded wineries in a new edition of the Ecovino 2024 Awards. The Vega Vella Blanco 2023 receives, once again, the Gran Ecovino Gold medal in this contest that has also recognized four other references of the winery with a gold medal and three silver medals.
The Ecovino Awards, which recognise the best organic wines, have announced their list of winners from among more than 300 entries from 100 wineries from 35 wine-growing regions.
FIVE PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS
The five award-winning wines belong to Vega Vella. This is the range of wines made from organic viticulture, according to European organic farming regulations, from vineyards located in Rioja Oriental, an area with a more Mediterranean climate that helps to develop the typical characteristics of each variety, enhancing the fruity aromas to their maximum expression.
Vega Vella Blanco 2023 – GREAT GOLD. Winner of this same medal in 2019 and 2022, in their corresponding vintages, this wine is made with a coupage of Sauvignon Blanc and Garnacha Blanca from the winery’s own vineyards located in Rioja Oriental. The vines have been organically farmed for more than three decades and only treated with natural products, and the vines produce a low yield of a high quality wine. The result is a fresh and powerful wine in the mouth, with a pleasant acidity provided by the sauvignon blanc and a pleasant creaminess given by the garnacha blanca.
Vega Vella Tinto Reserva 2015 – GOLD. Vega Vella Tinto Reserva 2015 – GOLD. Located in a terroir of silt with alluvial pebbles, this wine comes from the oldest vineyards with a selection of the best grapes. It is a wine of great expressiveness and aromatic complexity that pairs very well with red meats, highly cooked dishes, game and poultry.
Vega Vella Tinto Crianza 2019 – SILVER. This wine comes from trellised vineyards on clayey loam soils with alluvial boulders and gypsum and marl soils. Tempranillo is the main grape variety with touches of graciano and garnacha. It is made by reducing the presence of sulphur dioxide as much as possible, resulting in a natural wine that respects the environment.
Vega Vella Tinto 2022 – SILVER. Vino fresco, aromático, con un poco de carbónico de la propia maceración, que aporta aroma, frescor suave.
Vega Vella Rosado 2023 – SILVER.
ECOVINO AWARDS
One hundred wineries from 35 different wine-growing regions participated with 303 references in the fifteenth edition of the Ecovino Awards, based at the Scientific-Technological Complex (CCT) of the University of La Rioja. The jury, chaired by Professor Antonio Tomás Palacios and made up of 30 expert judges, held the blind tasting sessions last April.
According to the organisers, the quality of the wines, in general, was particularly high in this edition. Thus, in order to comply with the usual maximum limit of 35% of trophies, the cut-off point was 87 points, which meant that only the highest Platas were awarded, very close to the Gold medal limit of 88 points.
